Phoenix Natural Gas (PNG) offers a rotating set of connection grants and seasonal promotions to homeowners switching from oil, solid fuel or electric heating to natural gas. They’re not a single fixed scheme: offers change quarterly, by postcode, and by household type.
This is the 2026 map of what’s typically available and how to stack it with the NIHE Boiler Replacement Scheme.
Important: we are not a Phoenix Natural Gas approved installer. This guide is informational. You apply for the connection directly with PNG. We handle the gas boiler work from the meter inward.
What PNG grants cover
The grants typically cover the connection cost: the pipework from the PNG street main to your external meter box. Standard connection is £400-£1,200 depending on distance from the main.
Grants don’t normally cover:
- The boiler itself (separate, see Boiler Replacement Scheme NI)
- Internal gas pipework from the meter to the boiler
- System flush or tank removal
- Appliances other than the heating boiler

Offers are strongest in spring and summer (PNG smooths winter installation demand by incentivising early-year switches).

- Run the grant calculator (usually a 3-question form: current fuel, property type, income band)

Stacking PNG grants with the NIHE Boiler Replacement Scheme
Yes, these stack. They cover different parts of the conversion:
- PNG grant pays toward the gas supply connection
- NIHE grant pays toward the new boiler (up to £1,700)
Applied together, a typical oil-to-gas conversion in Belfast moves from £4,500-£8,500 gross to £2,800-£6,800 out of pocket.

Timing the application
Order matters. Recommended sequence:
- Check PNG network coverage at your address (free, 2 minutes online)
- Apply for the PNG connection with any active grant (takes 3-8 weeks to install)
- Apply for the NIHE Boiler Replacement Scheme in parallel (takes 6-12 weeks to decision)
- Once both are approved, book the installer (us or another Gas Safe / OFTEC engineer)
- Install runs once PNG have the meter in and NIHE have issued the offer letter
Don’t start the boiler install until PNG have completed the supply connection. You need the meter in place before we can do anything internal.
Who we are and what we do
We are a Gas Safe and OFTEC registered installer across Belfast, Lisburn, Newtownabbey, Bangor and the surrounding 20-mile radius. On an oil-to-gas conversion, our scope is:
- New combi or system boiler
- Internal gas pipework from meter to boiler
- Flue run, filter, inhibitor
- System flush
- Oil tank decommissioning and removal
- Building control notification and Gas Safe cert
PNG handle the supply. NIHE handle the boiler grant. We handle the rest.

If you’re outside the PNG network
Natural gas isn’t available. Options:
- Stay on oil with an annual oil boiler service and newer condensing oil boiler
- LPG, which has its own network considerations and different grants
- Air source heat pump, covered under separate schemes
