Oil to Gas Conversion
Switch from oil
to natural gas.
Full oil-to-gas conversions across Greater Belfast. The installer manages the gas connection, remove your old boiler and tank, and fit a new gas system from start to finish.
The process
What we do, end to end.
One engineer manages the full conversion. You don't have to coordinate between a heating engineer and the gas provider, the installer handles both.
- 01 Liaise with your gas provider (Phoenix or Firmus) to arrange the service connection.
- 02 Remove your oil boiler and, if you wish, your oil tank.
- 03 Install new gas boiler, flue, condensate drain and pipework.
- 04 Flush the existing heating system and fit a system filter.
- 05 Commission the new boiler and run full safety and combustion checks.
- 06 Issue gas safety certificate and register the manufacturer warranty.
Why switch
The case for natural gas.
- 01 Gas is cheaper per kWh than oil across most months of the year.
- 02 No oil deliveries, no tank capacity worries, no top-ups needed in a cold snap.
- 03 Smaller, wall-mounted gas boilers free up the space an oil boiler takes.
- 04 Warmer hot water on demand with a combi, no waiting for the cylinder.
- 05 Reduced maintenance, gas boilers need less annual cleaning than oil.
- 06 Government grants may apply if you qualify (see below).

Questions
Oil-to-gas FAQ.
How long does an oil to gas conversion take?
Most domestic oil-to-gas jobs take 2 to 3 days on site. That assumes the gas service connection is already in place. If the installer is waiting on the gas provider to connect, the installer coordinates the timing so you're not without heat longer than necessary.
Is gas actually cheaper than oil?
Across most of the year, yes. Gas pricing in NI is more stable than oil, which spikes with the international oil price. Over 10 years, the running-cost saving typically covers a chunk of the conversion cost, though the exact number depends on your usage.
Can I get a grant for switching?
Possibly. The NI Sustainable Energy Programme and Affordable Warmth have historically supported oil-to-gas conversions for qualifying households. Eligibility depends on income, tenure and property type. We can point you at the right scheme, we don't administer grants ourselves.
Do I need to remove the oil tank?
No, you can keep it. But most customers ask the installer to remove it so they reclaim the garden space. Tank removal and disposal is from £350 and the installer handles it properly, oil tanks have specific disposal requirements.
What happens to my radiators?
They stay. The radiators and pipework work with both gas and oil systems. Installers flush the system during the conversion to protect the new boiler, and installers replace any radiators that are beyond useful life (agreed upfront in the quote).
What gas providers do you work with?
Phoenix Natural Gas for most of Belfast and the north-east, and Firmus Energy for Lisburn and some western areas. The installer liaises directly with whichever provider serves your postcode.
