Before winter
Service before the cold. Don't be the February call-out.
Oil systems sit idle for most of the summer. Sediment settles in the tank, the nozzle stays unburned, the pump dries out a little, and on the first cold morning in November the boiler tries to fire, draws dirty fuel, and locks out. By the time we arrive, the house is at fourteen degrees and the diary is full.
A service in late summer or early autumn changes that. We replace the nozzle, brush out the heat exchanger, test the photocell, check pump pressure, and run a combustion analysis. Anything marginal is caught before the system has to work hard.
We also recommend topping the tank up by mid-October. Oil prices typically dip in late summer, and a full tank dramatically reduces internal condensation, which is the source of the water and sludge that kills nozzles and pumps in the first hard freeze.

Questions
Oil boiler servicing FAQ.
How much does an oil boiler service cost?
A standard oil boiler service is £95 including a new nozzle, photocell clean, combustion check and written report. Landlord certificate on top is £20. All-in with a minor repair on the day is from £140.
How often should I service my oil boiler?
Every 12 months. Oil boilers accumulate soot and sludge faster than gas, so skipping a year noticeably hurts efficiency and can fail your manufacturer warranty.
What brands do you service?
Warmflow, Grant, Worcester Heatslave, Firebird, Trianco, Riello burners, Mistral, most domestic oil-fired boilers sold in NI. Message us with the make and model if you're not sure.
Are you OFTEC registered?
Yes, OFTEC registered. OFTEC is to oil what Gas Safe is to gas: the statutory competence register. Installers issue OFTEC-format inspection sheets and our Every installer is Gas Safe registered in their own name if you also have gas appliances.
Will you replace a nozzle on the day?
Yes. A nozzle change is part of the standard service. If the installer finds a failed photocell or leaking flexi, an installer will quote the repair before doing it.
When should I book my oil boiler service before winter?
Late summer or early autumn, August to October. Oil systems sit idle through summer and the first hard week of cold weather is when sludged tanks, stuck pumps and old nozzles all show up at once. Booking early picks your date instead of fighting for the last slot in November.
What does a pre-winter oil service catch?
Sediment in the tank that's been settling all summer, a nozzle that's burning too rich and sooting the heat exchanger, a photocell that's marginal in dim conditions, a sticking pump that won't lift on a cold morning, weak fuel line connections that weep when ambient temperatures drop. All small jobs in October; all emergencies in February.
Should I top up my tank before winter?
Yes. Cheaper to fill in late summer when oil prices typically dip, and a full tank reduces condensation, which is the source of the water and sludge that causes pump and nozzle failures. Aim for a full tank by mid-October.
